Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) joined President Joe Biden and other state and local officials at the Pemigewasset River Bridge in Woodstock, New Hampshire to celebrate the robust federal investments in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which Shaheen and Hassan negotiated and was signed into law by President Biden yesterday.

“President Biden chose New Hampshire as his first stop in the nation to discuss what the historic bipartisan infrastructure deal means for working families for a reason: this bill is a big win for Granite Staters. Repairs to red-list bridges like Pemigewasset River Bridge have lingered for too many years, and today was a pivotal opportunity to discuss New Hampshire’s unique infrastructure priorities with the President,” said Senator Shaheen. “I helped lead negotiations around this bill to make sure it responds to the pressing infrastructure needs of small and rural states like New Hampshire. Beyond once-in-a-generation investments in our roads, bridges, airports, broadband and water infrastructure, this bill will also create jobs and boost the economic recovery of communities like Woodstock. The impacts of this deal will be felt by generations of Granite Staters to come, and I’m so proud our long nights and early mornings of negotiations with the White House led to this important victory for working families.”

“It was an honor to have President Biden in New Hampshire today. The bipartisan infrastructure package will make a huge difference in getting our infrastructure where it needs to be so that our small businesses and economy can thrive. Because of this bipartisan infrastructure deal, we’re going to see potholes fixed and bridges repaired, clean drinking water for our kids and coastlines better protected from extreme weather, and high-speed internet in towns across the state,” said Senator Hassan. “This type of meaningful investment in our country is the result of reaching across the aisle to find our common ground in love of country. Working alongside my Democratic and Republican colleagues, we were able to do just that and I look forward to seeing the impact of our infrastructure package in New Hampshire and across our country in the months and years ahead.”

“It was an honor to welcome President Joe Biden to New Hampshire today to see first-hand the impact the Bipartisan Infrastructure Package will have on our Granite State communities,” said Rep. Kuster. “From bolstering broadband access in rural New Hampshire to repairing our iconic covered bridges to bringing commuter rail to our state, this legislation is a game-changer for Granite State families. I was proud to work across the aisle to get this done for our communities, and will continue fighting for New Hampshire priorities in Congress.”

“It was an honor to welcome President Biden to New Hampshire today to discuss the impact the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will have across our state. Passing this legislation is a critical first step towards restoring our infrastructure, including the 215 bridges and nearly 700 miles of roadway in poor condition in New Hampshire,” said Rep. Pappas. “By rehabilitating our existing infrastructure while also making smart investments in our future, these funds will create jobs, boost our economy, and restore our competitiveness. As these investments are delivered I look forward to continuing to work with our communities to ensure our most pressing projects receive the funding they need.”

Shaheen was a lead negotiator on provisions of the historic bill that address water infrastructure and broadband. In June, Shaheen joined President Biden and a bipartisan group of Senators to announce the framework of the package. Shaheen joined members of the bipartisan group on the Senate floor to unveil bill text of the legislation in August.

Senator Hassan directly negotiated a number of key provisions in the bill that will benefit Granite Staters, including additional funding for coastal resiliency, high-speed internet expansion, passenger rail and clean water infrastructure. The Senator also successfully secured her measure in the final bill that will create a state and local cybersecurity grant program.
