FRESNO, Calif. - Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) announced that they would cut oil production by 2 million barrels a day from its production quotas beginning in November.
"The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) decision to slash oil production is a blatant political move by Saudi Arabia. By aligning with Russia, the Saudis are intentionally hurting the U.S. and European economies and helping fuel Putin’s war. We cannot continue to rely on foreign oil and allow the Saudis and other autocracies to control our gas prices. It is time to consider cutting United States military assistance to the Saudis and United Arab Emirates, and we must boost domestic energy production here at home. Americans deserve better!" said Congressman Costa.
