PALO ALTO, CA – Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18) released the following statement after a federal district court decision in Braidwood v. Becerra threatened the preventative health services covered under the Affordable Care Act including by finding that covering pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medication violates the religious rights of employers:

“How painful it is to have a federal court rule that the health care needs of the LGBTQ community can be subjugated to a policy trash can. Yesterday’s ruling will allow an employer to deny coverage for PrEP, a life-saving medication to prevent HIV/AIDS. The decision also threatens to end the Affordable Care Act’s free coverage of cancer and heart disease screenings, contraception, and other preventative measures. We cannot let this stand. I will continue to fight to support and strengthen the Affordable Care Act so that every American can benefit from affordable, quality health care.”
