Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) offered the following statement after voting for a bill to make June 19, also known as “Juneteenth,” a federal holiday: 

“Juneteenth represents a crucial moment in our nation’s history and has been rightfully celebrated by our fellow Americans of African descent for over 150 years. The liberation from slavery should be a celebration for Americans of all generations and all backgrounds. 

I am proud to have supported giving this historic day the national recognition it deserves.”
