From August 13, 2021 post.
Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) issued the following statement in response to continued reports of Taliban advancements in Afghanistan:
“The decision to withdraw from Afghanistan seems to have been enacted without having a concrete plan for doing so safely and effectively.
“As we prepare to send 3,000 American troops back into the country, it would seem obvious that all did not go according to plan. For many months, Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle warned of this type of outcome. Sadly, Afghan lives are being lost, and the Taliban is overtaking Afghanistan at an alarming pace.
“Seemingly, we are now desperately making an effort to evacuate the U.S. Embassy in Kabul as well as many of the Afghan partners who served with us.
“Every American, especially those who served in the Afghan theater, along with those Afghan allies who stood by our side and now face grave danger, deserve to know more. Those still serving there deserve immediate attention.
“There are many outstanding questions, and we need accountability. What advice was given to the president before this exit? What was the assessment from the Intelligence Community and that of our intelligence analysts? How closely did the administration work with the Afghan government throughout this process? Did we actually do anything to deter the Taliban during this process?
“We all deserve action and answers.”
