A transcript of Congressman Latta’s remarks is below: “May 31st is the day that we all recognize Memorial Day in this country, and it is a day that we should really reflect on. It is a day when you think about all who gave their lives to make sure we have the freedoms we have today.

“My mom’s younger brother – who was eighteen – was killed in 1944 in PT boat service in the South Pacific. What type of life would that eighteen-year-old have had if he survived the war?

“But when you think about all of our fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen, coast guardsmen across all of these battles, the wars that we fought – it’s all about one thing. It is remembering them for their sacrifices; it’s remembering them for what we have and are able to have today

“So many people around the world would love to have the freedoms we have, but we always have to remember that a high price was paid for those freedoms.

“When we think about Memorial Day, let’s fly our flags, let’s go visit the cemetery and visit the graves who have fallen – so let’s remember them this Memorial Day.”
