The major responsibilities of your Republican Party of Rockwall County are to educate and inform our voters, to get Republicans out to vote and to WIN elections! We are proud of the Republican WINS by the voters and your local Republican Party since the first Republican primary was held here in 1972. We will go above and beyond to give YOU - the voters - the information needed to cast educated votes.
Texas House State Representative Justin Holland has served Texas District 33 since 2017. We respect Rep. Holland for the good votes he has made on our behalf over the years; however, he has grown increasingly unresponsive to voters and the Republican Party especially over the last two legislative sessions. In doing so, he has insulted and belittled local Republican voters and your Rockwall County Republican Party.
In this year's 88th session in particular, Rep. Holland has multiple votes and actions that are in direct opposition to the Republican Party. Voters must be made aware of his continued disregard for Republican principles and priorities
Here are some of the issues where Rep. Holland has taken action in direct opposition to the Principles and Platform of the Republican Party of Texas:
- School Choice: Rep. Holland voted to prevent increased school funding and teacher bonuses, and to prevent the establishment of Education Savings Accounts for the children of Texas - 87% of Rockwall County voters approved the initiative at the ballot box in 2022.
- Gun Control: Rep. Holland voted in favor of gun control on the transfer of semi-automatic rifles to persons 18-21 years old
- Democrat Leadership: Holland voted for Texas State Representative Dade Phelan to continue as Speaker of the House, with full knowledge that Phelan had and would continue to appoint Democrat Chairs of powerful legislative committees.
- Against the Republican Party: Rep. Holland privately and publicly demeaned the local Republican Party, the Texas State Republican Party and Executive Board and its leadership, referring to the Party as AWOL and irrelevant. He apologized privately to the local Party but did not issue any public statement of apology regarding his public attacks on the Republican Party.
- Paxton Impeachment: Rep. Holland voted to impeach fellow Republican, Attorney General Ken Paxton without hearing or seeing sworn testimony in the process leading to the impeachment resolutions, which concluded with 16 not guilty verdicts in the Senate trial.
