AUSTIN, Texas – This week, many targeted and eligible Democratic voters aged 65 and above began receiving vote-by-mail applications from the Texas Democratic Party. For over a decade, the party has sent vote-by-mail applications to eligible Democrats in order to increase voting access for Texas seniors across the state. The 2024 Vote-by-Mail Program will continue this effective and cost-efficient turnout initiative – sending a bilingual mailing that contains a “Mail Ballot Request Form” with an enclosed return envelope to a targeted universe. The form allows recipients to apply to receive annual ballots by mail for the 2024 calendar year, including the March 5th Democratic Primary and May 28th Runoff elections.

Questions from the public about voting in person or voting by mail can be directed to the Voter Assistance Hotline at 844-TX-VOTES.

Important dates and deadlines for mail ballot application recipients:

Friday, February 9th:

Recommended date to return Mail Ballot Request Form to ensure adequate processing time.

Friday, February 23rd:

Mail Ballot Request Forms must be received by your Elections Office no later than 5:00 PM to vote by mail in the 2024 Democratic Primary.

Tuesday, March 5th:

Mail Ballots must be postmarked no later than 7:00 PM and sent to the Elections Office. (Ballots postmarked by this deadline and received by the Elections Office by 5:00 PM the following day will be accepted.)

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“For nearly a decade, the fundamental goal of our Vote-by-Mail program has been to increase Democratic turnout by reducing the confusion and complexity of the mail ballot process for voters. Providing key information to guide recipients as they fill out their mail ballot request forms is critical to the program’s success – and we’re proud to work in partnership with our County Parties, Texas Young Democrats, Texas Democratic Women, and other allies to ensure that Texas Seniors have the opportunity to cast their ballots in every election this year.

“2024 is a crucial year for Texas Democrats. We’re up against the Republican establishment’s well-oiled machine that funds races up and down the ballot – including MAGA extremists like Ted Cruz and Monica De La Cruz. But we have something that the GOP doesn’t: we have people power. Through a coalition of mobilized voters, activists, organizations – we will do everything in our power to get out the vote for Democrats at every level from now until November.”
