Nevada's first female U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto announced her 2022 filing for reelection in Reno.
Cortez Masto talked about the economy, wildfires, COVID-19, health care and gas prices to campaign supporters, including union representatives, in a 10-minute campaign speech.
"This campaign is about one thing," she said to cheers. "It is about the people of Nevada."
She said she is facing a tough race against former Republican Attorney General Adam Laxalt but spent most of her time talking about what she has done for the state to create jobs, including her role in passing bills that supported construction and fighting fires.
She said other bills that will be signed into law will create jobs in manufacturing to take on the Chinese government.
"Here's what we need to do. Let's build that supply chain right here in America. I believe in America's innovate spirit. We can build in America, buy in America so everyone makes it in America. "
She said many people ask her why it is so hard to get things done in Washington.
"You know what? It is hard. But you know what? That doesn't mean we can't get it done."
She said she is working to lower costs on energy and health insurance.
"I have seen our state go through so much change over the course of my life in Nevada," Cortez Masto said talked about being a third generation Nevadan and a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno.
“We are in a stronger position than we have been in year,” she said. “ And that’s because of the strength of Nevada (and) the people I am proud to fight for every day.”
