“As a combat veteran, I am concerned that the Biden Administration would consider a ‘permanent’ deployment of forces to combat terrorism in the Horn of Africa, without consulting Congress. There is undoubtedly a significant terrorist threat in Somalia. Our disgraceful withdrawal from Afghanistan last year has emboldened rogue leaders and terrorist organizations worldwide.
“While I am confident in the U.S. military’s ability to combat terrorism and to train local militias/government forces to combat it themselves, I am resistant to any permanent deployment of U.S. forces without express consultation with Congress. Congress needs to ask the Biden administration tough questions – now – about the objectives of this operation and immediately demand Congressional approval before the administration launches U.S. forces into another military operation. President Biden should outline the specific objectives, assure clear rules of engagement, and identify measures to prevent mission creep.
“This administration should be all too familiar with the drastic human and financial costs of endless conflicts.”
