The federal Department of Transportation has announced grants for Capital Region International Airport in Lansing and MBS International Airport in Freeland.

"Capital Region Airport and MBS both create convenient travel options for Michigan residents and this funding will help ensure they have a safer, more convenient experience," said Congressman John Moolenaar. "The men and women working in our airports have been essential in keeping travelers safe and this funding will help them continue that important work."

According to the Department of Transportation, the grants provide "economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airport."

The grants are funded as part of the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act that Congressman Moolenaar voted for in March 2020. Capital Region Airport will receive a grant for $ 1,782,970 and MBS Airport will receive a grant for $1,524,588.
