Today, President Joe Biden proposed his federal budget for 2022. The proposal, which will be reviewed by Congress, cuts the annual budget for the Army Corps of Engineers by a billion dollars.
“To invest in infrastructure President Biden should invest in the Army Corps of Engineers, and not cut its annual budget. The Army Corps has important work to do, including building a new lock at the Soo Locks, maintaining Great Lakes water levels, and preventing the spread of Asian carp. President Biden’s proposal to cut the Army Corps' annual budget harms those goals and I will be working to stop his cut,” said Congressman John Moolenaar, Michigan’s senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.
The Army Corps of Engineers budget for the current 2021 federal fiscal year that runs from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021 is $7.8 billion. The Biden budget proposes reducing that amount to $6.8 billion for the 2022 federal budget that begins on October 1, 2021 and runs through September 30, 2022.
