Today, the House of Representatives passed the Ghost Army Congressional Gold Medal Act, which would honor the 1,100 members of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops unit of the Army, commonly known as the Ghost Army, for their service during World War II. Congressman John Moolenaar cosponsored the legislation earlier this year and voted for it today.
“The Congressional Gold Medal is one of our nation's highest honors and I am proud to be a cosponsor of this legislation which recognizes the members of the Ghost Army for their bravery and service,” said Congressman Moolenaar. “The efforts of the Ghost Army helped win World War II and they deserve this special honor for their significant contributions to the war effort.”
The Ghost Army was an 1,100-member unit during World War II that carried out the work of deceiving the Nazis. Its successful use of fake radio transmissions, inflatable tanks, and other deceptions has been covered by a PBS documentary and by other national media outlets, including The Atlantic.
