This week the House passed three bills to promote opportunities in STEM education. The bills authorize grant programs to increase participation in STEM fields, including rural communities and underrepresented populations.

“STEM education is critical to preparing students for future opportunities that include good-paying jobs and roles in scientific research,” said Congressman John Moolenaar. “I voted for these bills because it will help prepare students for those opportunities and continue our nation's leadership in scientific research and innovation.”

The Rural STEM Education Research Act authorizes the National Science Foundation to award grants for research to improve rural students' access to and participation in STEM fields in addition to directing other agencies to work on improving rural broadband.

The Supporting Early-Career Researchers Act establishes a 2-year program through the National Science Foundation to award grants to highly qualified early-career investigators to carry out independent research programs.

The STEM Opportunities ACT authorizes new grant programs to increase participation of underrepresented populations in STEM education.
