The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Office of Rural Development has announced that three rural communities in the Fourth District will receive grants for new emergency equipment for first responders.
“By updating firefighting equipment and purchasing new vehicles, residents can feel safe knowing their first responders are well equipped to help them in an emergency,” said Congressman John Moolenaar. “I have voted to support rural development programs that make investments like these in rural Michigan because they provide vital funding for important community projects.”
Billings Township received a $20,500 grant to purchase an emergency rescue vehicle. The vehicle will be equipped with a fire/medical skid unit along with GPS tracking that will allow for location tracking in rural areas.
The City of Durand received a $17,500 grant to purchase a new police vehicle, which will replace an outdated vehicle with high mileage.
The Mid Michigan Community Fire Board received a $36,500 grant to purchase 20 new sets of turnout gear for the fire department, which will replace the current equipment, in order to meet the current standards.
