Today, the House of Representatives passed a bill cosponsored by Congressman John Moolenaar that will provide training for law enforcement to help them stop human trafficking. The legislation is called the DHS Blue Campaign Enhancement Act and it passed the House on Tuesday in a bipartisan vote.

“The Blue Campaign is an important public awareness program used to educate law enforcement officers and local authorities and help them combat human trafficking,” said Congressman Moolenaar. “I supported this legislation so the program can expand and provide more resources to law enforcement that will help prevent human trafficking and protect the victims of this heinous crime.”

The Blue Campaign works to educate the public, law enforcement and other industry partners so they can recognize the indicators of human trafficking. The program provides general awareness training and materials for law enforcement and other authorities to increase detection of human trafficking, and to identify victims.

The DHS Blue Campaign Enhancement Act requires DHS to provide training for law enforcement personnel and establishes an advisory board for Blue Campaign that includes representatives from various government agencies who combat human trafficking.
