This morning, former Senator Bob Dole passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 98. Dole served his country in the European Theater during World War II where he sustained injuries that he would carry with him the rest of his life. His service as a captain in the Army earned him the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
In 1968, Dole was elected to represent Kansas in the U.S. Senate where he would eventually serve as the Senate Majority Leader. He was the Republican Nominee for Vice President in 1976 and Republican Nominee for President in 1996. In 2018, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.
“Senator Bob Dole dedicated his life to serving our country. As a member of the Greatest Generation, he was a hero for his service in World War II and as a senator, he made America a better place,” said Congressman John Moolenaar. “Senator Dole will be long-remembered for his selfless patriotism, decency, and humor. I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends as they mourn his passing.”
