Today, the House of Representatives passed legislation that would change elections across the country and abolish many of states’ own voting laws, including voter ID requirements.
Congressman John Moolenaar voted against the legislation, which was passed by the Democratic majority on a party line vote.
“As Michigan families and seniors continue to be hurt by inflation and rising prices, Democrats in Washington continue to ignore the crisis. Instead of addressing the rising cost of living, every House Democrat voted today to take the money Michigan families pay in taxes and use some of it to fund their own political campaigns in November. They also voted to abolish voter ID requirements even though the American people overwhelmingly support voter ID. Overall, the bill the Democrats passed today will harm election integrity and make it easier for people to break the law,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.
The legislation now goes to the U.S. Senate, where Democrats will try to change the rules of the Senate to pass the bill. It is unclear if they will have votes because Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has repeatedly said he does not support his Democratic colleagues’ attempts to change the rules.
