Today, President Joe Biden announced a ban on American purchases of Russian oil.

“President Biden says he wants to make things in America, but his actions tell another story when it comes to American energy,” said Congressman John Moolenaar. “I support banning  Russian oil sales, but Biden must also end the federal freeze on new American oil and gas projects, and expedite all the approvals needed for pipeline and energy development here in the United States. Taking those steps will increase the supply of American oil, create jobs and support our national security.”

Congressman Moolenaar supports the American Energy Independence from Russia Act. The legislation is led by Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers and according to her office, the bill:

  • Immediately approves the Keystone XL pipeline
  • Removes all restrictions on liquified natural gas (LNG) exports
  • Restarts oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters – which was halted by the Biden administration
  • Requires Biden to submit an energy security plan within 30 days and requires the Secretary of Energy to develop a plan to replace oil drawn down from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR)
Gas prices hit a new all-time national record yesterday, rising to over $4.10 a gallon for regular unleaded gas. The price was raising long before President Biden announced the ban on Russian oil.
