Congressman Steve Womack (R-AR) today joined Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), and numerous other members in introducing a resolution opposing efforts to lift sanctions on Iran. The members released the following joint statement regarding the introduction:

The members said, “The U.S. must maintain sanctions on the Iranian regime until it abandons its nuclear ambitions and ends its supports for violence and terror around the region. Iran took advantage of weak policies during the Obama Administration, and President Biden must not repeat those same mistakes.”

Cosigners of the resolution in the House also include: Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY), John Katko (R-NY), Chris Stewart (R-UT), Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), John Curtis (R-UT), Jack Bergman (R-MI), Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA), Steve Chabot (R-OH), Glenn Grothman (R-WI), Stephanie Bice (R-OK), Jackie Walorski (R-IN), Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rick Crawford (R-AR), Ted Budd (R-NC), Greg Steube (R-FL), and Ashley Hinson (R-IA).

The move is Womack’s latest action to hold Iran—a known state sponsor of terror—accountable. In Congress, he has consistently supported imposing sanctions on Iran and called for using all diplomatic, economic, and military tools to address their destabilizing behavior.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
