Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 5:

“Americans should always be treated equally under the law. But that is not what the so-called “Equality Act” does. H.R. 5 is a dangerous attempt by Democrats to impose their ideological notions at the expense of fundamental and hard-fought women’s rights. The bill would systematically gut safety and privacy protections and obliterate female athletics. It’s not fair or equal to allow biological males to compete in K-12 and women’s sports, utilize girl’s locker rooms, and access domestic violence or crisis centers. Eradicating conscience protections for healthcare providers who don’t want to perform abortions also has nothing to do with equity. This disastrous policy is unequivocally wrongheaded and runs counter to the anti-discrimination objective it claims to purport.”

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
