Trying to stand out in a crowded field running for Congress, Joy Fox made a point to mention her roots several times in an interview with NBC 10 News.
“Having grown up here, I have a deep understanding of this district and all the different opinions in it,” Fox said.
Fox is making a run to represent Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District.
She grew up in Cranston, and now lives in Warwick, both part of the district.
“I’m in this race because I believe I can make a difference. I believe I have a unique set of qualifications and bring a different perspective to this,” Fox said.
Fox was a reporter at the Cranston Herald, worked briefly at NBC 10 as an assignment editor in the early 2000s, then moved into communications, first for the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, then Rep. Jim Langevin — whom she now seeks to replace — and then General Treasurer and Gov. Gina Raimondo.
“There is a choice here between someone that has lived experience in the district, running a small business now, and the rest of the field, who I think a lot of folks in this field have a little more money than I do and got into this race because they saw an opportunity for power. We have plenty of those people in D.C.,” Fox said.
