WASHINGTON–U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) released the following statement after voting against the establishment of an independent commission to investigate the events of January 6 at the U.S. Capitol:

“There are multiple investigations already underway, within Congress and by law enforcement agencies, into the events of January 6th. These examinations continue to produce facts and evidence about what transpired that day, and it is unclear to me that establishing another investigation will produce new information or different results. If the objective is to get to the truth and prevent a repeat of this clear security failure, I am confident we can do that using our existing authority in Congress and with the support of the Department of Justice.

“I’m incredibly thankful for the actions of the rank-and-file members of the U.S. Capitol Police for executing their duty to safeguard members of Congress and our staff, and support efforts to hold its leadership accountable for failing to make necessary preparations to respond on that day.”
