This week, Congresswoman Lisa McClain (R-MI) toured the Starr Commonwealth facility in Albion, Michigan, that recently began housing unaccompanied alien children who cross the southwest border without their parents.
“President Biden’s open-border policies are encouraging this massive influx of children illegally entering the country without their parents. This is the most sophisticated, organized, illegal immigration process I have ever seen. Of the nearly 200 children housed at Starr Commonwealth, all but five at this facility have already made initial contact with a family member in the United States in just over a week,” said Rep. McClain. “Once these kids get to the border, your tax dollars are footing the bill for not only housing these children, but also transporting them anywhere in the United States to family members. We need policies to be put in place to stop this crisis that is overwhelming our country.”
The Starr Commonwealth facility is currently housing 191 children as the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) locates family members in the U.S.
The crisis at the southwest border is no longer a border state issue, it is a national problem. This facility in Albion is 1 of more than 200 facilities housing 19,789 unaccompanied alien children.
