Today, Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, released the following statement after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky:

"I was so delighted to meet Ukrainian President Zelensky with several of my Congressional Ukraine Caucus colleagues. It was definitely worth making a special trip to DC. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur allowed me to ask the first questions. I emphasized that all of us on a bipartisan basis were completely opposed to Nord Stream 2. Speaking of energy, though, I was glad to see that Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm led the US delegation to the 30th anniversary celebration. I pointed out that I had worked with her on clean energy in Michigan as Acting Director of the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth, and that I am laser focused on really – really – tackling climate change in Congress. I offered to work with Secretary Granholm to partner with Ukraine to speed it towards renewable energy self-sufficiency. President Zelensky was excited, and we had a dialogue on the spot with his energy minister.

"Next, I told him I represent one of the most vibrant Ukrainian-American communities in the US and asked his view of the diaspora's relationship with the homeland and how I could help. To be honest, I was blown away by his answer. All of us were. He had a LOT of ideas. To wit: psychologists to help veterans with PTSD and mental health challenges; job training for veterans (in green energy, I said!); greatly expanded student exchanges; managers to help reform the government and fight corruption. It was a long and creative list, and a topic he has clearly thought about. I left all excited to get to work to advance the US-Ukraine relationship!"
