Today, Congressman John Moolenaar offered an amendment that would prohibit the Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Education from using federal funds to implement a COVID vaccine mandate. Moolenaar offered the amendment during the House Appropriations Committee’s annual debate on funding of the aforementioned departments in next year’s federal budget. The amendment was defeated on a party-line vote.
"I have been leading the opposition against President Biden's vaccine mandate since it was announced. As he continues to push for pandemic mandates, I will do everything I can to make sure Americans across the country have the right to decide whether they get a COVID vaccine," said Moolenaar.
Moolenaar is Michigan’s senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, which decides funding levels for federal departments, agencies, and programs. Last year, he introduced the No Vaccine Mandate Act that would have prohibited the Department of Labor from spending taxpayer funding on enforcing the Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration's vaccine mandate. Ultimately, that mandate was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court.
