Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) voted to pass the Freedom to Vote John R. Lewis Act, a bill that would safeguard voter registration and ballot box access as well as election security. It would also protect against partisan gerrymandering and promote campaign finance reform.

“Today, I voted to advance a crucial voting rights and election protection bill that will also end partisan gerrymandering and includes campaign finance reform. This bill will ensure that the voice of the people and communities are equally heard and respected,” said Congressman Bishop. “We face a clear and present danger as 19 states have enacted 34 laws — with hundreds more proposed — that suppress votes and allow for the subversion of elections. The very bedrock of our democracy is at stake. I urge the U.S. Senate to swiftly take up this bill.”
