Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) issued the following statement regarding the death of Montezuma, GA Mayor Larry Smith:
“We were shocked to learn of the death of Montezuma Mayor Larry Smith. At every stage of his life, he dedicated himself to the service of others.
“We enjoyed working with him for the people of Macon County. And just last month, we joined with him in celebrating new funds awarded to the Montezuma airport from the bipartisan infrastructure law. He enthusiastically shared with us how this would make a difference for the city and county.
“He was an inspiration to those who watched his leadership. He always demonstrated passion and optimism that all people could work together to make the community better.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Laura, and his entire family. We join the citizens of Montezuma and Macon County in mourning the loss of this dedicated public servant.”
