Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) applauded the recent award of a $264,008 U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Decentralized Water Systems Grant to the Golden Triangle Resource Conservation and Development Area, Inc. The organization will be contributing $29,351 of its own funds to the project. Altogether, the $293,359 will be used for its ongoing revolving loan fund project which helps low-income residents in Southwest Georgia’s rural areas repair or replace individually-owned household water well and septic wastewater systems.
“For too many low-income families in our rural communities, the costs to repair or replace water systems can be prohibitive,” said Congressman Bishop. “These federal funds through the USDA provide vital support to local projects like this and help ensure all Georgians have access to clean water and good functioning wastewater systems.”
“Making sure that families have access to clean water is a fundamental quality of life issue. These USDA funds will help us meet that challenge in rural communities for our low-income residents,” said Rhonda Gordon, Executive Director of Golden Triangle Resource Conservation and Development Area, Inc. “With ongoing USDA support for our project we have expanded the effort to include septic systems and water testing and are able to continue helping people across Southwest Georgia.”
The Golden Triangle Resource Conservation and Development Area, Inc. serves 15 counties in the Southwest Georgia area including Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Early, Grady, Decatur, Dougherty, Miller, Mitchell, Randolph, Seminole, Stewart, Thomas, Terrell and Worth.
As the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA, and related agencies, Congressman Bishop has led efforts to robustly support the broad range of USDA Rural Development Programs which have a local and direct impact on the quality of life for rural communities across the country.
