Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) is pleased to announce four grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Education to higher education institutions across middle and southwest Georgia to help improve the educational outcomes of Black and minority communities.
“By investing in these colleges and programs, the Department of Education is helping teachers and administrators strengthen programs and improve minority student outcomes,” said Congressman Bishop. “These colleges are preparing tomorrow’s scientists and engineers as well as training students for a range of jobs. The health of our local economy as well as America’s competitiveness on the world stage, depends on developing all the potential our community has to offer.”
- The U.S. Department of Education awarded a Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP) Grant of $245,598 for Albany State University.
- The U.S. Department of Education awarded a Predominantly Black Institutions Grant of $599,637 to Central Georgia Technical College.
- The U.S. Department of Education awarded a Predominantly Black Institutions Grant of $563,307 to Albany Technical College.
- The U.S. Department of Education awarded a Predominantly Black Institutions Grant of $600,000 to South Georgia Technical College.
Central Georgia Technical College, Albany Technical College, and South Georgia Technical College are receiving funds through the Predominantly Black Institutions (PBI) Competitive Grant Program which supports the creation and improvement of programs in STEM, Health, Globalization, and Teacher Preparation as well as seeks to improve educational outcomes among African-American males.
