Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) announced two recent U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grants to Enrichment Services Program, Inc. for its Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The awards total $10,111,545 to support programs that promote early learning and development, health, and well-being for low-income families.
“The Head Start and Early Head Start Programs have provided millions of children with the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development skills they need to be successful in school,” said Congressman Bishop. “I am pleased to see this substantial investment in early childhood resources for multiple counties in Columbus and the Chattahoochee Valley area, so that parents and children have the holistic support they need to be successful in life.”
Last month, Fort Valley State University also received a grant of $3,252,465 for its Head Start Program.
Congressman Bishop is a strong supporter of the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs. As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, he has worked to ensure that these two programs receive robust funding each year. In the Fiscal Year 2022 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Act, which the House Appropriations Committee approved last week, Head Start and Early Head Start received $12.2 billion, a $1.4 billion increase over FY 2021.
