Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a resolution removing the time limit for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, H.J.Res. 17:

“The Constitution does not state anything about time limits for constitutional amendments—simply that the amendment must be ratified by three-fourths of states and be passed by a two-thirds majority in both the House and the Senate, which the Equal Rights Amendment has done. Removing the arbitrary time limit for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment is a vital step towards the equality of women being part of our Constitution. This will bring America closer to our principles of liberty and justice for all.”
