BISHOP STATEMENT ON PASSING OF VERNON E. JORDAN, JR.

Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement on the death of Vernon E. Jordan, Jr.:

“I am deeply saddened to learn of Vernon Jordan’s passing. His iconic life shaped the history of America through the many roles he played. Landmark civil rights lawyer; field director of the NAACP; leader of the Southern Regional Council, voter education project, United Negro College Fund, and the National Urban League—all moving the nation to a more equitable reality.

“His presence in corporate board rooms and on international platforms, as well as his advice and counsel to multiple Presidential administrations, truly made a positive difference. He did so much for so many for so long. My wife Vivian and I are grateful for his friendship and send our sincere condolences to his wife Ann, daughter Vickie, his extended family, and all those who mourn his loss. His, was a life well lived!”
