Rep. Val Demings is going to Nancy Pelosi’s hometown of San Francisco tonight for a fundraiser with notorious Defund the Police Mayor London Breed.

Breed was one of the first to jump on board with the Defund the Police movement. In the summer of 2020, Breed announced $120 million worth of cuts to the San Francisco police and sheriff’s departments: “Here are fundamental changes to policing in San Francisco that we’re moving forward: Demilitarizing Police, Ending Police Responses to Non-Criminal Activity, Addressing Bias & Strengthening Accountability, Redirecting Funding for Racial Equity.”

Demings also voiced her support for defunding the police, which she called “very thoughtful.” She also referred to violent riots as “a beautiful sight.”

“Val Demings, who votes with the Speaker 100% of the time, will feel right at home in Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco. It’s no surprise that Demings is choosing to raise money alongside Defund the Police advocate London Breed — Demings herself called defunding the police, ‘very thoughtful.’ Seems like Demings’ radical agenda would be better suited to California than Florida,”  Elizabeth Gregory, communications director for Rubio for Senate.

While Val Demings has a history of embracing the Defund the Police movement, Marco Rubio has been a consistent supporter of law enforcement. His advocacy in Washington landed him the endorsements of 55 of Florida’s 66 elected Sheriffs, the 1,000+ member Florida Police Chiefs Association, and the 30,000+ member Florida Police Benevolent Association.
