Rep. Andy Harris recently voted against a bill to prevent sex trafficking and to help the victims of that heinous practice. The bill increases services including education, job training, shelters and mental health care for victims, and it passed the House 401-20, with all Democrats and the vast majority of Republicans voting in favor.
But not Congressman Harris.
Why? It’s a darn good question. Harris has not spoken out to defend his inexplicable vote. But his friend, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, claimed that the bill would somehow “act as a backdoor loophole for illegal immigration and amnesty.” He also complained about the bill’s cost of about $1 billion, which is about one-fortieth of 1% of the federal budget.
