Chestertown, MD – Today, Heather Mizeur, Democratic nominee for Congress in Maryland’s First District, released a digital ad highlighting how farming and stewardship of the land have been central to her personal identity and family history.

Mizeur, descended from a long line of farmers, spent most Sundays on her grandparents’ land in rural Illinois, playing on the farm equipment as a youngster and later helping to harvest corn and soybeans. Her summer jobs were detasseling corn for a seed company and cutting weeds from soybean fields. Mizeur and her wife, Deborah, reside on a 34-acre herb farm in Kent County.

“I always teased my grandparents that they had twelve kids just so they had the labor they needed to work the land,” Mizeur said. “It’s tough but deeply satisfying work. I have all the respect in the world for farmers – you have to be skilled at so many different things, it’s like ten different jobs rolled up into one.”
