The Joy Fox for Congress campaign today announced the strong support from Rhode Island women leaders who have worked to provide safe access to health care throughout their careers and to strengthen our public health system.  

“I am honored to have the support of these women, many of whom are on the front lines delivering care every day,” said Fox. “With reproductive health care under threat across our country, they understand just how high the stakes are in this election and what it means for the future of reproductive justice and women’s rights.”

Since the Supreme Court’s decision in June to overturn Roe v. Wade, fighting for reproductive freedom is a top issue in the race for the Second Congressional District. 

“It’s time to send the first Democratic woman to Congress from Rhode Island and Joy Fox is that woman,” Dr. Emily White said. “When we needed help changing the law to allow minors to consent for their own care during pregnancy, Joy was there to help us raise awareness about the issue. She is only ever a phone call away and when she’s elected to Congress, we know that won’t change.”

As Rhode Island and the nation work to move past the pandemic, Joy also understands the importance of rebuilding our public health system to become more inclusive, equitable and just.

“Joy understands that most care happens outside of our doctor’s offices and hospitals,” Lisa Vura-Weis, former acting Secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services for Rhode Island, said. “From housing to nutrition to gun safety, she knows that keeping our neighbors healthy can’t happen in silos. In Congress, we know Joy will be an advocate for creating – and properly funding – fair, equitable, and sustainable programs that include every community.”
