No Ban Act clears House of Representatives
U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today voted in support of H.R. 1333, the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants, or NO BAN Act, legislation that narrows the President’s ability to block immigration into the United States and discriminate against immigrants.
“Closing the golden door of the United States over the past four years rendered America a pariah state and did not make us safer,” said Rep. Pascrell, a cosponsor of the NO BAN Act. “After the xenophobia and hostility espoused towards immigrants by the previous administration, this legislation will limit the power of the Article II branch to block immigrants from entering our shores. Most important, the House today voted to prohibit the use of bigotry and discrimination in our national immigration policymaking. The Statue of Liberty promised generations of immigrants that our land embraces ‘your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.’ The removing of hateful immigration policy for good will give meaning to those words once more.”
Rep. Pascrell strongly opposed Donald Trump’s so-called Muslim ban since the day it was announced and was one of Congress’s biggest opponents of Trump’s poisonous immigration agenda. Pascrell was also a leader in Congress in fighting back against the previous administration’s hostility to refugees, leading his colleagues in condemnation of its vicious policies.
