Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) released the following statement on inflation reaching a 40-year high.

"Working families can't afford every day life right now. It's more expensive, and in some cases completely unaffordable, for Americans to do their grocery shopping, fill up on gas, and pay their energy bills. With families feeling this pinch, it's unacceptable that Speaker Pelosi is still trying to push additional government spending that will drive prices up even further and run our economy into the ground. I'm ready to work with anyone who will work with me on common sense economic policies that will improve the daily lives of Iowans and bring costs down. ” -Congresswoman Ashley Hinson

Background:

Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

  • Energy prices are up 29.3% over the past year, and the cost of gasoline is up 49.6%.
  • The cost of groceries have gone up 6.5% over the past year, in contrast to a 1.5% annual increase over the past ten years.
  • The cost of used cars and trucks is up 37.3%.
  • The cost of furniture and bedding is up 13.8%.
