Congressman Dwight Evans (D-PA-3rd) has been appointed to an added role in his second term on the influential House Ways and Means Committee. In addition to serving on the Ways and Means Subcommittees on Health and on Worker and Family Support, Evans will also now serve on the Subcommittee on Oversight.

“I’m honored to continue serving the people of Philadelphia on this important committee and in this added oversight role. Ways and Means is one of the most sought-after assignments in the House because we oversee taxes, trade, Social Security, Medicare and much of the U.S. health care system,” Evans said.

“I have already been working to keep our safety-net hospitals open through my bipartisan ‘No More Hahnemanns’ effort, which began before the Covid pandemic, and on priorities such as bringing down the costs of insulin and other vital prescription medications. We passed the Elijah Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act in the last Congress, but the Republican-controlled Senate did not act on it.

“Now that we have a new president and a new majority in the Senate, I’m optimistic we can make some real progress for the people!”

Evans is the first African American from Pennsylvania to serve on the Ways and Means Committee, which is the oldest committee in Congress and whose past members include eight presidents, eight vice presidents, 21 speakers of the House of Representatives and four justices of the Supreme Court.

Evans will also continue to serve on the House Small Business Committee, where he has worked to help Philadelphia small businesses receive the help they need during the pandemic.

Evans represents Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes Northwest and West Philadelphia and parts of North, South, Southwest and Center City Philadelphia. His website is evans.house.gov and he provides information to constituents on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @RepDwightEvans.
