After months of republican stonewalling, support will pay heroic law enforcement

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today celebrated the passage in the House of an emergency $2.1 billion security supplemental that will fund the U.S. Capitol Police, the National Guard, and help relocate loyal Afghan translators to the United States. This funding had been unconscionably blocked by congressional Republicans for months since the Democratic House first passed the funding bill on May 20, 2021.

“It is about damn time,” said Rep. Pascrell, the co-chairman of the Law Enforcement Caucus. “On January 6, Capitol Police officers saved our lives and saved democracy. That they have been on pins and needles waiting to know if they’ll get paid is a disgrace. I want to again thank the men and women of the Capitol Police and I hope they know we will never forget them. The Republican members who held up this agreement for months should be ashamed.

“I am also pleased we are setting aside funding for loyal Afghans who risked their lives to help American troops. They had our backs and we need to have theirs and accelerate their arrival to America.”
