Paterson, Clifton, and Passaic City to receive federal funding for updated equipment, training

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) announced today that Paterson, Clifton, and the City of Passaic have been awarded $203,161 in federal Justice Assistance Grant funding by the U.S. Department of Justice. The grants are funded by the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which Rep. Pascrell has championed throughout his time in Congress. With Rep. Pascrell’s support, Paterson will receive $138,796, Clifton $15,705, and the City of Passaic $48,660. The three departments are authorized to use this funding to purchase needed training, equipment, and resources.
"These past two years have been especially trying for North Jersey’s first responders. Now more than ever they need federal support like this," said Rep. Pascrell, co-chair of the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus. “For years I fought to protect and expand the Byrne JAG program so local departments like those in Paterson, Passaic, and Clifton could have the lifesaving resources they need. As we continue to beat back COVID-19, I’ll continue fighting for every federal dollar available for our public safety. This is tremendous news for our community and I am proud we were able to bring this money home for our first responders.”

Rep. Pasrell is a longtime advocate of public safety funding in the Congress. As co-chair of the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus and Fire Services Caucus, he has prioritized securing federal aid for North Jersey’s first responders and has doubled his efforts amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, Rep. Pascrell backed legislation to ensure that public safety officers who contract COVID-19 in the line of duty would be eligible for benefits for their families should they become disabled or die from the virus. He also helped pass President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, which provided hundreds of millions in additional funding to support America’s first responders and prevent departmental layoffs.
