U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) this afternoon vociferously condemned a recent series of deeply antisemitic statements by Donald Trump.

“There can be zero question that the words by Donald Trump are vile, despicable antisemitism,” said Rep. Pascrell. “This latest rant is a continuation of a pattern of statements trafficking in anti-Jewish tropes and stereotypes that have formed the basis of hate and oppression. I condemn his words and Mr. Trump unconditionally. Every elected Republican in America should disown Trump’s latest antisemitic rant. But I am not holding my breath: this level of hate is not just tolerated but invited by the modern GOP.”

In 2015 at a Republican Jewish Coalition meeting, Trump suggested that Jews “control” politicians through money. Trump perpetuated anti-Jewish tropes by tweeting “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever!” and an image of Hillary Clinton’s face atop a pile of cash next to the Star of David. Trump released a campaign ad featuring the faces of prominent Jews with an haunting voice characterizing them as comprising a “global power structure” that has “robbed our working class” and “stripped our country of its wealth.” As President, Trump called a group of neo-Nazis “very fine people”. In August 2019, Trump declared himself the King of Israel” “and he was sick of “disloyal” American Jews. Speaking at the Israeli American Council in Hollywood, Florida, that same year Trump “dipp[ed] into a deep well of anti-Semitic tropes,” suggesting, among other things, that Jews only care about money. Most recently, in clips that aired on the Unholy podcast, the former president ranted about how American Jews aren’t loyal enough to Israel, invoking a longtime anti-Semitic trope about Jewish people and allegiances to another countries.
