Today, May 19th, 2022, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives to honor the life of Davenport’s Ira Dunsworth.

Thank you, Mdm. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the life of longtime Central High School teacher, track coach, mentor, and pioneer, Ira Dunsworth.

Ira’s accomplishments included 15 State Championships, was named the Iowa State Coach of the Year four times, and is a member of the Iowa Track Coaches Hall of Fame. Following his retirement from Central, he was inducted into the Iowa Track Officials Hall of Fame.

It is fitting that the track at Davenport’s Brady Street Stadium, home of the Ira Dunsworth Invitational Meet, be named after him. I can think of no better man to receive such an honor to memorialize and honor the legacy that Ira Dunsworth left.

Thank you, Mdm. Speaker, I yield back my time.
