Secretary Of State and Democratic nominee for governor Katie Hobbs issued the following statement in honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day:

“Today, I join Arizonans in honoring the diverse knowledge, cultures, and traditions of Indigenous communities. For generations, Indigenous peoples have shown us the true meaning of resilience and strength, and I am so grateful for their countless contributions to Arizona and our country.

As we work towards creating a better Arizona, we must always prioritize and advocate for Indigenous rights and representation in all decision making. I pledge to work with all of the 22 tribal communities across Arizona to build economic opportunity, a fair justice system, and a more accountable state government.

It’s past time we fulfill our promises of providing Indigenous communities with the support they deserve. Together, we can put our state on a greater path to guaranteeing prosperity, opportunity, and equality for all.”
