Congressman Cohen Announces Interior Department Grant to Purchase Land for the Lower Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge

Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the Natural Resources Committee, today announced that the Interior Department’s Migratory Bird Conservation Commission approved a $455,577 grant to expand the Lower Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge in Tipton County by 88 acres.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“This funding will protect not just migratory birds along the Mississippi River flyway, it will assure that West Tennessee wetlands come under federal protection.”

The Lower Hatchie refuge is one of seven refuges across the country sharing $13 million in Commission-approved grants announced today. The acquisitions will expand public opportunities for hunting, fishing, wildlife observation and outdoor recreational access.
