Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee, headquartered in Memphis, will receive a grant of $184,000 for its newborn screening program from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“Sickle cell disease is a major health problem in Memphis and the Mid-South region that disproportionately affects African Americans. I am pleased to see this investment in the early detection of the illness, which will improve outcomes and potentially save lives.”
