MOORESTOWN, NJ – Burlington County businessman and congressional challenger Bob Healey today issued the following statement:

“Last week, I outlined key education issues where Congressman Kim has shown himself, despite all the moderate talk, to be a hard-core radical when he’s in Washington casting votes on our behalf.

His failure to accurately represent the interests and values of Third District voters is illustrated again in his votes on defense issues.

Congressman Kim is an active member of the extreme left House Progressive Caucus which has proposed a 10% cut in defense spending. This group of the Democrats — the most hardcore left members – proposed the Pocan-Lee-Jayapal amendment, which would cut the Pentagon budget by 10 percent in 2020.

This year, Rep. Kim again voted counter to the district—the self-described national security expert voted against a bipartisan measure to reward our military troops with a modest pay raise to help them combat rising inflation.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Kim failed to support a proposal to the National Defense Authorization Act which would give military personnel “making less than $45,000 annually” a monthly “inflation bonus” of 2.4%.1

In a district whose population is made up of military personnel and retirees, Andy’s vote demonstrates no understanding of his job of representing his constituents, and shows how out-of-step he is on issues of concern to the people he works for.

Cutting the defense budget by 10% and overlooking our lowest paid servicemen can only be explained by knowing that when in Washington, Andy Kim just does what the radicals tell him to do.

This region needs a forceful advocate to support the US military presence in the district. What the Third District can’t afford is Andy Kim’s leftist ideology making the case for another base closing.”

1 On June 22, 2022, Kim voted against the amendment, Log 2468 to H.R. 7900 which would give certain members of the military a 2.4% pay raise. The Amendment was passed 42-17 in the House Armed Services Committee.
