GOP Challenger Slams Incumbent for Breaking Promise to Restore SALT Deduction

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Republican candidate for Congress Bob Healey today issued the following statement:

“Where’s Congressman Kim? As some of his New Jersey Democrat colleagues fight to reinstate the SALT deduction, Congressman Kim is ‘Missing-In-Action.’

Rep. Gottheimer, and four other members on Friday sent a letter to the Chairman of the tax-writing committee urging reinstatement of the state and local tax (SALT) deduction that allows taxpayers of high-tax states to deduct local tax payments on their federal tax returns. Rep. Kim did not sign the letter. Why?

Congressman Kim literally ran on the promise of restoring the SALT deduction in 2018 and failed in his first term. In 2020, during his first re-election campaign, he said if he just had a Democratic President, he could get it done.  He got what he wanted and failed again.

Now, when he has a chance to stand up and be counted in support of restoring the SALT deduction he’s clearly given up, he quit.  What else would you expect from someone who votes with Joe Biden’s failed agenda 100% of the time?

And, worse still, on Friday he voted for a bill that raises taxes on the middle class. A bill that raises taxes on New Jerseyans who already pay the highest taxes in the country – while capitulating on restoring the SALT deduction he promised to bring back.

The facts are clear: Rep. Kim’s support for restoring the SALT deduction is a fraud.  He broke his promise.  NJ-03 voters deserve a representative who fights for his constituents.”
