The Smiley for Washington Senate campaign today announced that it has received the endorsement of the Washington State Fraternal Order of Police (WAFOP).

“The Washington State Fraternal Order of Police is honored to endorse Tiffany Smiley as our U.S. Senator for the State of Washington,” said WAFOP president Marco Monteblanco. “Her passion towards law enforcement has shown our members that she will fight for public safety and support the brave men and women who swore an oath to protect the citizens we serve.”

Smiley is a staunch supporter of law enforcement, and she has released an “Agenda for Public Safety Recovery and Reform” to ensure every law enforcement agency has the resources they need to keep Washington communities safe. One of the proposals in her agenda would allow agencies to use federal funds to offer $5,000 in recruitment and retention bonuses. Smiley has also proposed a requirement for local governments to fund their municipal police departments in order to remain eligible for any funding from the Department of Justice.

“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of the brave law enforcement officers who make up the Washington State Fraternal Order of Police membership,” Smiley said. “Throughout my campaign, I have made it abundantly clear that I ‘back the blue,’ and I will fight every day to ensure every law enforcement agency in Washington is fully funded and equipped with the resources they need to keep our families, businesses and communities safe.”

WAFOP, which represents over 3,400 law enforcement officers in Washington state, now joins the Washington Council of Police & Sheriffs (WACOPS) in supporting Smiley’s candidacy.
